Hardtail Mountain Bikes

Hardtail mountain bikes are generally at least a kilo lighter than a similarly spec’d full suspension bike, due to only having front suspension and no rear shock. This translates as a bike that can climb quicker and be easier to manoeuvre, which is a plus for beginners. Its rigidness makes a hardtail MTB feel more natural when you climb out of the saddle. Giant / Liv, Specialized and Whyte all offer great quality, entry level hardtails that are trail capable, and suitable for all terrains. The Specialized Rockhopper range is one of the most popular XC hardtails on the market – with lightweight A1 aluminium frames and available in Sport / Comp / Expert / Pro models for both men and women. Other enduro / XC hardtails include the Whyte 909 and Specialized Chisel. Giant’s range of hardtails include 29ers, trail and electric MTBs. Read our guide to hardtail vs full suspension bikes.
